How to keep your team working remotely during a storm

Every server, every network switch, and every piece of critical equipment should be on a UPS — an uninterruptible power supply — with adequate battery runtime to allow a clean shutdown if power goes out.
UPS units also provide surge protection far superior to standard power strips. Size your UPS based on the wattage of the equipment it’s protecting — your IT company can calculate this — and replace the batteries every three to four years. A UPS with a dead battery is just an expensive power strip.
What to do in the 48 hours before a storm hits
- Verify your cloud backup ran successfully last night and confirm recent files are present
- Move laptops and portable devices to upper floors or take them home with staff
- Photograph your server room and equipment for insurance purposes
- Shut down servers and non-essential equipment cleanly (do not just cut power)
